What do you love about living in Tokyo?
“Because I’ve lived here all my life, Tokyo makes me feel the most comfortable. It’s chaotic, filled with so many things, but the city is clean and very convenient.”
When you have friends in town, where do you take them for cocktails, coffee or a memorable meal?
“Sasha Kanetanaka in Omotesando would be my choice for drinks – their tea and sweets are amazing. S.G CLUB in Shibuya is an exquisite cocktail bar. For food, I’d recommend Tori-sukiyaki “Botan” in Kanda. Botan was established in the Meiji Era and it will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time.”

What hotel should we check in at?
“I’d recommend the Imperial Hotel (they also have a beautiful bar). It’s a historic hotel located in front of Hibiya Park and the Imperial Palace, surrounded by greenery despite being in the centre of Tokyo. Hotel Chinzanso, which has a beautiful Japanese garden, is another of my favourites.”
What’s your ultimate insider tip for exploring Tokyo like a local?
“If you master the train network, it’s much more convenient than driving on most occasions. But you have to avoid the morning rush hour and use the trains after 10am. The Shitamachi area, where Kanda is located, is Tokyo’s old town, and exploring the area on foot will bring you much fun.”
