The name "Coupette" originates from the French coupe, which means bowl or goblet. In comparison to a cocktail glass, the Coupette holds a slightly larger capacity; it is more frequently used for drinks that also include a small juice content as well as alcohol. The Coupette is popular for frozen drinks where the ingredients are mixed in a blender with ice, and possibly fruits, and served as a sorbet-like mass. Ice is not normally used in this glass.
