Camilla And Marc’s Fashion Week Launch

Bigger Is Better At Camilla And Marc’s MBFWA Show

The future is BIG, according to Camilla and Marc. The brand opened this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia with a monumental presentation of their Resort 2019 collection. Instead of walking a runway, models navigated an arid desert landscape, winding their way around giant boulders and patches of desert grass. (Sixty tonnes of sand was shipped to the Sydney venue to create the surreal set!) The silhouettes were also sizeable. From oversized suiting to sweeping hemlines, Camilla and Marc’s message was clear: bigger is definitely better. Forget power shoulders, it’s all about power sleeves. And forget bucket bags because enormous, knee-grazing leather tote bags have arrived. Exaggerated shapes came in a pastel palette of dusty pink, buttercup yellow and mint. The set was also dotted with shimmering brown and taupe evening dresses that glistened like alien mirages in the desert heat.

Indigenous Australian model Charlee Fraser opened the show, marching across the set to the thumping beat of an ambient dance track. As the music filled the space, we were instantly transported to another, far more stylish, planet. Styled by Vogue Australia’s Fashion Director Christine Centenera, the show oozed cool. Tailored jackets were updated with contemporary cross-body bags and a double-denim outfit finished with powder blue thigh-high boots. Another show highlight? The opalescent green dress donned by Kiwi supermodel, and former Victoria’s Secret angel, Georgia Fowler.

The presentation marked a milestone for Camilla and Marc who are celebrating their 15th year in the fashion business. Since launching at MBFWA in 2003, the brand has become a household name in Australia and developed a dedicated following overseas. Their fan base includes duchess-to-be Megan Markle, who was recently spotted in one of their signature blazers. The iconic Australian label is a presenting partner of MBFWA this year and they couldn’t have kicked the event off in a better way. Their show was both quintessentially Australian and thoroughly modern, and that’s exactly what MBFWA is all about.
