The inimitable Tommy Hilfiger talks to Mr. Jones about sourcing inspiration, staying relevant and his three-decade-long reign in the fashion world.

Looking back on your legacy, what stands out the most?

It’s unbelievable to think that the brand launched more than 30 years ago. I was a teenager when I started out in the fashion industry and, over the years, I’ve met incredible people and learnt important lessons on how to run a successful business. I always had a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve and never gave up on my dream to build a global lifestyle brand. We’ve stuck to our DNA while always reinventing our classic Americana styles. This is how we built longevity into our brand – by offering our fans designs that are truly authentic to our brand spirit and relevant for today.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere from fashion and art to music and entertainment, and I’m always looking for new ways to fuse pop culture with our designs. My children keep me up to date on the latest artists and music trends. Travelling around the world and discovering new cultures with my wife, Dee, is inspiring and always gives me ideas.

How do you use your influence to transform the lives of those less fortunate?

I believe that you have nothing if you give nothing. It’s important to  give back and I’m actively involved in raising awareness for several charities and causes, like Autism Speaks. This cause is particularly close to mine and Dee’s hearts.

How do you choose who to collaborate with as a brand ambassador?

Partnering with pop culture icons – like Lewis Hamilton, Zendaya, Hailey Bieber and Winnie Harlow – has always been an important part of our heritage. Looking back, I have fond memories of working together with some amazing talent, including Beyoncé, The Rolling Stones and Lenny Kravitz. The individuals we partner with share our core value of determined optimism and identify with our “classic American cool” DNA. We make sure to build personal relationships before establishing any partnership. Each new collaboration injects a fresh twist into our collections and campaigns, keeping the brand relevant.

Why do you think Tommy Hilfiger’s all-American spirit has such international appeal?

Classic American cool is the starting point for everything we do and can be interpreted in many different ways. With every collection, we celebrate our relentless optimistic spirit and add new flair to classic pieces. Everyone can put a new spin on a timeless design and it’s inspiring to see how fans around the world put their own unique style on our Americana heritage.

What’s next for you?

We’re excited to continue reinventing the classics with unexpected twists and launching exciting new collaborations, events and campaigns to bring our global fans into the world of Tommy Hilfiger. Like I always say, the best is yet to come!
