Celebrating 70 Years of Ella Baché: A Legacy of Skincare Excellence

To mark 70 years of empowering women and fostering confidence, the iconic skincare brand Ella Baché is celebrating its enduring legacy.

Leading a Legacy Throughout The Decades

Ella Baché stands as the pinnacle of individualised Skin Solutions in Australia, with a legacy of innovation, commitment to quality, and dedication to empowering individuals to embrace their unique skin story.

1936 – Where It All Began

In the heart of Paris in 1936, a revolutionary vision for skincare was born. Madame Baché (right), an avant-garde cosmetic chemist, founded her skincare line on the principle that every skin is unique. She believed, “because no two skins are alike,” that each client deserved individualized care. Madame Baché’s groundbreaking work included the discovery and use of ingredients like fruit acids, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid—essential components of modern skincare that continue to shape beauty routines today.

1954 – Arriving In Australia

The Ella Baché story took an international turn in 1954 when Madame Baché’s cousin, Edith Hallas (left), brought the products to Australia. Edith’s entry into the Australian market was as memorable as it was daring. She demonstrated the effectiveness of Baché’s cold wax strips by using them on her own legs in front of David Jones’ department store buyer, showcasing the product’s power and precision.

1963 – Launching The Beauty School

A passion for education and a commitment to advancing the beauty industry led Edith Hallas to establish the Ella Baché Beauty School in 1963. This initiative would eventually evolve into the esteemed Ella Baché College of Skin and Beauty Therapy. Edith’s dedication to teaching and training fueled a growing interest in skin care, empowering women to delve deeper into the world of beauty.

1991 – Made With Australia’s Environment In Mind

In 1991, Ella Baché took a significant step by launching Australia’s first locally made suncare protection. The Lifesaver range, named after the lifesavers, it was tested on at Whale Beach, NSW, marked a milestone in the brand’s commitment to catering to Australian needs. This suncare range quickly became beloved, expanding into a comprehensive face and body offering that resonates with Aussies to this day.

2009 – Making Waves

The year 2009 saw Pippa Hallas (left) take the helm as CEO, bringing fresh energy and vision to the brand. Under her leadership, Ella Baché launched the “BOLD” campaign, sponsoring Jessica Watson in her extraordinary solo sail around the world. Jessica’s achievement as the youngest person to sail unassisted around the globe perfectly mirrored the bold spirit that Ella Baché embraced.

2018 – A Love Of Australian Ingredients

Ella Baché continued to innovate with the launch of their Botanical Treatment Oil in 2018. This move marked the beginning of a botanical range, including a Cleansing Oil and Hand Wash, all proudly made in Australia. The luxurious collection features locally sourced ingredients like Hemp Seed Oil from Byron Bay and Kakadu Plum Seed Oil from the Northern Territory, highlighting the brand’s dedication to natural, Australian-sourced beauty solutions.

2020 – A Turning Point

The global pandemic in March 2020 presented unprecedented challenges, but Ella Baché adapted swiftly. The brand launched virtual salons and skin consultations the moment a nationwide lockdown was announced. This quick pivot underscored their resilience and dedication to client care. Additionally, Ella Baché was inducted into the Family Business Australia Hall of Fame, a testament to their enduring legacy and impact.

Ella Baché: Looking To The Future

With a rich history grounded in research and innovation, Ella Baché continues to look forward. In 2021, the brand introduced its first Retinol Skin Solution, marking a new chapter in its ongoing commitment to pioneering Skin Solutions.

From its inception in 1936 to the cutting-edge advancements of today, Ella Baché’s journey reflects a legacy of innovation, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in skincare. As the brand looks to the future, it celebrates the recent launch of “IN MY OWN SKIN,” which celebrates the idea that healthy skin looks different for everyone. Ella Baché emphasises that feeling good in your skin is a personal experience and highlights the importance of understanding and loving your unique skin.
